Municipality of Blagoevgrad

Blagoevgrad Municipality is one of the constituent municipalities of Blagoevgrad District, according to the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Bulgaria. The municipality is the largest by population and the third by territory within Blagoevgrad district (with an area of 621 sq. km). It is located in Southwestern Bulgaria, in the westernmost part of the Rilo-Rhodope massif and is made up of 26 settlements - the city of Blagoevgrad and 25 villages. The city is located in the valley of the Struma River, at an altitude of 360 m, in close proximity to the southwestern slopes of Rila. As an important administrative center of the municipality and of the Blagoevgrad region, it is located 100 km south of Sofia, 27 km from the border with the Republic of North Macedonia, 80 km from the border with the Republic of Greece and 200 km from Thessaloniki. The main international roads connecting Bulgaria with Greece and the Republic of North Macedonia pass through it. The city of Blagoevgrad is the largest city in the region and the administrative center of the district and municipality of the same name, Blagoevgrad, and one of the most important economic and cultural centers in Southwestern Bulgaria. It is an important cultural, administrative and industrial center for the entire southwestern part of the country. The municipality of Blagoevgrad is located in an area characterized by relatively well-developed technical and business infrastructure, a developed educational network, demographic potential and opportunities for economic development.

Municipality of Simitli

The municipality of Simitli is located 118 km south of Sofia in Blagoevgrad district, 15 km. from the regional center. It is located along the middle course of the Struma river, not far from the Oranovsky gorge. An important factor for the development of the municipality are cross-road transport communications. Through it passes the railway and highway line Sofia - Athens and the diversion to the city of Razlog and the valley of the river Mesta through Predela. The four mountains - Rila, Pirin, Maleshevska and Vlahina shape its borders. Mountainous and semi-mountainous relief prevails. The surroundings of the city of Simitli are rich in churches and monasteries. There is a church in each of the settlements of the municipality. Most of them have been declared cultural monuments of local importance, and the one in the village of Mechkul is of regional importance. This is a prerequisite for the development of tourism, as well as the large number of mineral springs, which attract a large number of tourists and are curative for a number of diseases. The municipality has nodal transport importance. Road connections are made through it in the directions of Razlog, Bansko, Gotse Delchev, Drama, Sandanski, Kulata, Thessaloniki, Athens - main European corridors. Mineral water is also actively used for greenhouse production. The region's largest greenhouse base for the production of vegetables and flowers operates in Simitli. The profiling industries in which a larger part of the working population works are mainly in the mining industry, logging and wood processing, textile industry and agriculture. The trends in the development of Simitli municipality is to become a tourist and balneological center. The construction of modern sanatoriums for the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, neurological and skin diseases is a fact. In addition, there are very good prerequisites for the development of eco-tourism. The preserved nature and way of life of the population create excellent conditions for the development of rural tourism as well.

Municipality of Boboshevo

The town of Boboshevo is located in the Boboshevo Pole, in the geographical area of Dolno Pole, on both banks of the Struma River, near the confluence of the German River, at the foot of the Vlahina Mountain. The altitude of the city is 380 meters. It is 63 kilometers from Sofia, 30 kilometers from Kyustendil, 14 kilometers from Dupnitsa and 17 kilometers from Blagoevgrad. The municipality of Boboshevo has magnificent natural features and a rich cultural and historical past. It consists of 12 settlements with the administrative center in the town of Boboshevo. In the sectoral structure of material production, the predominant branch is agriculture with mainly developed fruit growing /cherry plantations/, vegetable production, beekeeping, animal husbandry, tobacco cultivation. This is followed by trade and light industry, which mainly includes food and carpentry.

The rich cultural and historical past, the good natural features (combination of river and mountains) and the preserved originality of the highland villages allow the conduct and combination of religious, hiking, cultural, fishing, rural, etc. tourism.

Municipality of Kocherinovo

The municipality of Kocherinovo is located in the southwestern part of the Republic of Bulgaria. It is located on both sides of the middle course of the Struma River and the lower third of the Rilska River. To the north, the municipality borders the municipality of Boboshevo, to the east with the municipality of Rila, to the west with the municipality of Nevestino and to the south with the municipality of Blagoevgrad. The municipality of Kocherinovo is one of the nine municipalities within the borders of the Kyustendil region. It occupies an area of 182,306 km2 and ranks second to last in terms of territory within the district. In addition to the Kocherinovo municipality, the district also includes the municipalities of Kyustendil, Nevestino, Rila, Dupnitsa, Treklyano, Bobov dol, Sapareva Banya and Boboshevo. The geographical location, climate and topography of the Kocherinovo municipality predetermine the existence of favorable conditions and prerequisites for the priority development of individual branches of the municipality's economy, such as agriculture, forestry, logging and wood processing, rural and eco-tourism, hospitality, processing of agricultural products and others.
